Goal Setting
Define the destination
Write down what you are saving for, the amount needed, and a realistic date. Vague goals like “save more” are harder to act on than specific targets with clear numbers.
Break goals into steps
Divide the total by months or weeks to find a practical contribution. If the required amount is too high, extend the timeline or reduce the target temporarily. Sustainable pace beats burnout.
Prioritise competing goals
Emergency funds, short-term purchases, and longer-term plans often compete. Rank them. Funding the top priority first prevents scattering small amounts across too many goals with little progress.
Review and adjust
Life changes. Income rises or falls, costs shift, and priorities evolve. Revisit goals every few months and update timelines. Adjustment is part of good planning, not a sign of failure.
Celebrate milestones
Acknowledge progress at meaningful checkpoints. Small, planned rewards can support motivation without undoing the savings plan. Motivation improves when effort is recognised.
